NLS Downloadable Audio
Books
You can download audio books and
magazines through the National Library Service (NLS)
Braille and Audio Download Project (BARD)
and listen to them on a digital player. When the NLS digital
player becomes available, it will have a USB port and patrons
can purchase off-the-shelf USB flash drives to download books.
Until then, these commercial devices can be used with NLS
downloadable audio books. BEFORE YOU PURCHASE SUCH A DEVICE,
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU CALL YOUR TALKING BOOK CENTER.

Of these, the Victor Reader Stream is the least expensive-around
$325. If you need financial assistance to purchase one of the
digital players, check to see if you qualify for the
assistive technology fund (ATF) through the Association
of Blind Citizens. The fund will cover 50 percent of the
purchase price if you qualify.
